Brothers & Sisters,
I spoke with the office of Leon LaBrecque and he has agreed to come in to speak with our members about personal finance, retirement planning, etc. He will be speaking following the conclusion of our Tuesday October 14, 2008 union meeting (approx. 10:30 am). I encourage anyone who has not met him or seen him speak to attend the meeting. If anyone knows any retiree's or has any family members that would like to attend they are more than welcome. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me at anytime.
Fraternally,
Darren Fabris

Brothers and Sisters:
Please feel free to call me or email me anytime in regards to Union matters. I am always willing to discuss information with the membership. I have been trying to pop in on other stations and other units from time to time just to answer questions but if anything comes up please don't be afraid to call.
Fraternally,
Joe Murray

Threre has been some questions as to the content allowed on the message board. This message board is designed to be a place where a "bitch session" can be had to air things out that can't always be dealt with on a face to face basis. I prefer face to face discussion, but for some, not so crucial issues, it is not always practical to hash it out that way. If someone is really "hurt" or "offended" and contacts me, I will and have removed the message. This can be looked at as a way to "self govern" ourselves and our behavior at work. I am not referring to any situation directly, but sometimes a little peer pressure can be an effective tool. I don't think anyone directly talked to on the message board normally takes anything entirely to heart. A lot of talk is for shock factor and “roast” humor. Again, if anyone really feels truly attacked and hurt by the comments, contact me personally and I will remove it.
We were having issues with members using the city email system for this type of banter. That is why we started the message board; so we have an avenue for this and no one gets into trouble.

Dear brothers and sisters of Local 412. As I mentioned while making rounds we have placed the DFD archives in the media & info committee. Eric Arnold is currently handling the archives materials and we are actively seeking volunteers to help him with this large undertaking. Preferably but not necessarily members who work at his location to assist in the database input. All members are asked to forward items that may be of valuable to the historical record of the Dearborn Fire Department, Local 412 and the DFD Burn Drive. Photos and articles already scanned or in electronic format are a real plus. The archives have its own address and items should be sent to dfdarchives@gmail.com. Let’s preserve our history and maintain the records of this department and the people who have served in it.
Thank you,
Bruce Hamilton
