Recent Burn Drive Donations

        The Dearborn Firefighter's Burn Drive is a non-profit organization that helps out many local families and charities.  These are some of the donations that have been made in the past couple months by the Burn Drive:


- On 11/20/08 The Burn Drive donated $750 worth of Thanksgiving Gift Baskets to local families in need so that they could have full Thanksgiving Dinners.


-In December 2008 the Burn Drive's Annual Christmas Toy Run took $15,00
0 worth of toys to children in local hospitals and charities such as Children's Hospital, U of M Burn Center, and the Ronald McDonald House.  Also the U of M Burn Center and the Detroit Receiving Hospital Burn Unit received a donation of $500 from the Burn Drive.   The Penrickton Center for Blind Children recieved $1,500 worth of specialty toys.

-On 12/04/08 The Burn Drive donated $2,000 to the Tim Kirk Fund at U of M Hospital.  This is a fund used by the families of patients undergoing treatment at the
U of M Burn Center for housing while their loved one is in the hospital.

-On 12/09/08 The Burn Drive donated $750 to a fundraiser for Mark Schimanski who is a Warren Firefighter with cancer.

-On 01/06/09 The Burn Drive donated $500 to the local Boy Scouts of American Fundraiser.  Also on this date the Burn Drive donated $216.73 to pay the gas bill of an elderly Dearborn resident to keep her heat on.

-On 01/26/09 The Burn Drive donated $250 to the Special Olympics of Michigan.

-On 01/26/09 The Burn Drive donated $905.25 to the U of M Burn Center.

-On 01/26/09 The Burn Drive donated $60 to the Ronald McDonald House to pay for knife sharpening for the families who stay there.

-On 02/17/09 The Burn Drive donated $1000 to Megan's Miracle.

-On 02/17/09 The Burn Drive donated $500 to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

-On 03/31/09 The Burn Drive Donated $500 to a local family whose father had terminal brain cancer to help offset costs.

-On 04/10/09 The Burn Drive was notified of a little girl who was blind and needed help.  Due to her religion she could not use a seeing eye dog.  The little girl instead has a seeing eye pony.  The problem was that the pony needed to be secured in the girl's yard.  The Burn Drive donated $250 for materials and offered labor from the Dearborn Firefighters to help put up the fence to protect and house the pony.

-On 04/10/09 The Burn Drive was notified of a local man with cancer who had lost his job, a donation was made to his family of $500 to help with medical bills.

-On 04/15/09 The Burn Drive donated $500 to Police Charities.

-On 04/29/09 The Burn Drive donated $100 worth of gas cards for the family of a local child who is disabled and has a long distance to the treatment center for his medical problems.

-On 04/29/09 The Burn Drive donated $500 to a little girl and her family of one of our members who lost almost everything in a house fire.  The money was used for toys and cloths for the little girl and her family.

-On 04/29/09 The Burn Drive donated $1,500 to the Penrickton Center for Blind Children Frost Bite Open Golf Outing.

-On 05/04/09 The Burn Drive donated $500 to the Relay for Life which is part of the American Cancer Society.

-On 05/07/09 The Burn Drive donated $500 to a child with cancer who is a friend of one of our members to help with costs.

- On 05/14/09 The Burn Drive donated $250 to the Jo Brighton Special Athletes, $200 to the HEMS golf outing and $ 880 to the Friends of the American Diabetes Association for Diabetes Research.

- On 05/27/09 Members from the Dearborn Firefighters Burn Drive along with many other volunteers helped to build a wheelchair ramp for a Dearborn family who had a loved one who was involved in an accident.  The hospital he was in would not allow him to come home unless a ramp was bulit on the home.  With a army of volunteers on hand the ramp was built in a matter of hours and the man was able to come home to his family.

-At the end of June 2009 the Burn Drive received a request through the group Circle of Care for a needy lady that needed a refrigerator. She has recently fallen on hard times and desperately needed the refrigerator to keep her insulin cold. She recently lost her husband and daughter and lives alone. The Dearborn Firefighters Burn Drive and Dearborn Police Charities bought and delivered a brand new refrigerator.

- This August 2009 the Burn Drive donated $500.00 to a local family who lost their 28 year old son and were unable to afford the funeral.

- Also this August 2009 the Burn Drive donated $750.00 to Randy Hall who is a IAFF (International Association of Firefighters) member and 20 year veteran Firefighter/Paramedic of the Commerce Twp. Fire Department.  Randy is also part of the Axemen, which is a firefighter motorcycle club in the area.  Recently Randy had a motorcycle accident in which he sustained multiple injuries that included the amputation of his leg.

-11/4/09 The Burn Drive donated $800 to buy a burn vest that will help speed up the recovery time for a resident who was recently burned.

- On 9-4-09 $1,000.00 to the Courtney Robinson Tanana fundraiser. Her and her husband both died of cancer a month later, five days apart and left (3) young children. The Burn Drive bought all of their Christmas presents during this difficult time valued at apx. $900.00.
 
- On 9-15-09  $1,000.00 to the phoenix Society for Burn Survivors helping to sponsor the Joe Hickey award to help with traveling expenses for award recipients (firefighters supporting burn care)
 
- On 10-15-09 $500.00 was given to the Michael A. Guido Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund
 
- On 10-30-09 $500.00 was given to the Josh Marshbanks fund for 22y/o quadrplegic from swimming accident, Westland resident, friend of Local 412 member.
 
-On 11-1-09 $250.00 was given to the Childrens Organ Transplant Assoc. in name of Braedon Bishop- 4y/o boy with recent liver transplant, relative of Julie Hirina
 
- On 11-23-09 $1,100.00 was used for Thanksgiving gift cards for needy families in Dearborn
 
- On 12-7-09  $200.00 was given to Special Days Camp for Children with cancer
 
- On 12-15-09 $1,200.00 was used to buy (6) beds for a family on Orchard St. Five kids and mother were sleeping on the floor.
 
- On 12-15-09 $15,000.00 was used for toys and medical equipment to area hospitals and burn centers for the Dearborn Firefighters Burn Drive Toy Run. In addition the Burn Drive was able to help out approx 30 families who asked for assistance with christmas toys for their kids. 
 
- On 12-24-09 a $500.00 gift card, (2) large boxes of toys, clothes, fruit basket, & assorted clothes were given to a Dearborn family burned out of their home on Pardee St. on Christmas Eve.
 
- On 1-15-2010 a $500.00 gift card was given to a family burned out of their home on Wisconsin St.
 
- On 2-12-2010  $60.00 was used for knife sharpening at Ronald McDonald House: contract 1yr. (for family kitchen) for Childrens Hospital families staying at RMH.
- On  2-13-2010 $250.00 was donated to a fundraiser for a Pontiac Firefighter who broke his neck on duty.

 - The Burn Drive would also like to thank the community for the support and donations at this years Dearborn Homecomming.  Your continued support enables the Burn Drive to help local families and children in need.
